After moving to Cornwall from London 10 years ago, and following an extensive career in display and design, I retrained using clay; my new creative medium. I really loved working with it, exploring and learning about its possibilities, I also found I could transfer and utilise to great advantage my background experience in design aesthetics, composition, colour, placement and presentation. I now work in my studio attached to my home in Lelant, St. Ives, overlooking the fabulous estuary views. My work is simple, individual and hand made. The porcelain clay is very finely slab rolled, textured, scribed and marked with found objects to initiate design before forming. Contemporary low firing matt and shiny glazes are applied in multi-firings that create stunning contrasts against the textured white surfaces. My present range of fine porcelain has a strong oriental influence with origins from very traditional Japanese colours and styling. However, they present finally with a deliberate contemporary twist and the additional use of mixed media; copper wire and ribbon lending a further dimension. Price range: £5 - £200 |
