Hidden Art in Milan, Salone Satellite, 18-23 April 2007
Stand B40/C39

Each year Milan, the Italian capital of design, hosts the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the world’s largest furniture fair. Around 2000 exhibitors from around the world participate in the event to display the latest designs in the furniture and interiors industry. 2007 will be the tenth year that the Salone Satellite, part of the Salone del Mobile, will allow designer-makers to showcase their prototypes to manufacturers, journalists and visitors. Around 180,000 visitors are expected to attend.

This is the 6th year that Hidden Art have had a presence in Milan and its second appearance at the world famous Salone Satellite. The showcase will feature eight designer-makers launching new designs from interior products and lighting to furniture.

Small Factories

Three Hidden Art Cornwall members are also launching new products at Salone Satellite in Milan this year. Jethro Macey, Sioban Imms and Nick Fraser, exhibiting under the umbrella Small Factories, are a distinct mix of fresh British talent driven by the desire to do things differently.

Sioban Imms has added to the Bisky Bat product family with a series of weather houses and a new take on her stunning Seamless Shade. The pieces are typically layered with thought-provoking concepts; fresh, innovative and environmentally considered objects that achieve social relevance and technical efficiency whilst remaining simple. Nick Fraser, who exhibited in Milan for the first time last year with Hidden Art, is launching a new product range that includes a novel take on the conventional wire frame lampshade and a series of wall mounted objects that challenge our perception of the industrial landscape. The essential elements of Nick’s designs are functionality and simplicity combined with discovery, variation and surprise. By manipulating basic recognisable shapes and forms, his designs play with the familiar to create exciting products with new functions. Birthday Candelabra and Faint Blind are new from Jethro Macey and will be on show alongside his award winning Lace Embossed Concrete Tiles. Jethro designs and manufactures a range of interior products, from one off pieces to small batches, appealing to individuals who take pleasure in purchasing and using products that are not mass produced.
